Welcome

We all struggle with life from time to time and it can help to talk things through with someone who is friendly, understanding and non-judgmental, to find a way forward. I offer a warm, confidential and supportive therapy service, based in a professional and private setting in the heart of Fareham, within easy reach of Gosport, Southampton and Portsmouth.

I am a mature, highly trained, professional counsellor and psychotherapist, having been in practice for over 20 years. Clients come to see me for many reasons and with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationships under strain or breaking down, bereavement, bullying, work related stress and abuse. I see my role as empowering the client to resolve the difficulties which are holding them back from living a positive, fulfilling life. Essentially, I work from a relationship perspective, drawing upon all the major counselling and psychotherapy theoretical frameworks, adapting my approach to meet the needs of each individual client. I am a very experienced EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) therapist, and offer EMDR to clients who have experienced trauma, including abuse, neglect, bullying or one off traumatic events and are struggling with anxiety, low confidence, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The first appointment is an assessment, or “toe in the water” session, which enables the client to check out the process and decide whether working with me could be helpful for them. During our ongoing work together, we regularly carry out a review, to ensure the client is getting what they need. I work with individuals, on either a short term or longer term basis, usually with weekly or fortnightly appointments. Short term work is typically around 6 to 8 sessions and longer term work can extend to a time frame to accommodate the client.

My Professional Body is the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) with whom I hold Registered Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist membership and an obligation to work within the their code of practice known as The Ethical Framework. I am a recognised provider for private medical insurers, PrueHealth, CIGNA, Aviva and WPA (Western Provident Association Limited). I also offer clinical and academic supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists and am a member of EMDR Association UK.

If you have any queries, or would like to make an appointment, please give me a call or drop me an email. I will respond to your message promptly.

My Practice

The West Street Counselling Centre is a private and professional practice, conveniently situated in central Fareham, in the main West Street retail and business area.

I offer counselling, therapy and EMDR for Fareham, Portsmouth, Gosport, Southampton and surrounding areas. I work with individuals on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully. The initial appointment is an assessment session, to enable you to put a toe in the water, without any commitment, to check out if you are comfortable with the therapy process.
